Tragedy Strikes!!!! - TWC_Padre - 05-18-2020 Over the last several months the RCAF team, the “Snowbirds” have been flying “Operation Inspiration,” an operation to inspire and encourage Canadian residents from coast to coast, by flying aerial acrobatics over select Canadian cities. Yesterday, May 17th 2020, shortly after taking off from YKA Kamloops, one of the aircraft team crashed into a nearby neighborhood. One member died in the crash, one member has been injured. Unfortunately there was collateral damage in the neighborhood where the crash took place. No cause for the crash has been determined; the matter is still under investigation. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/plane-crash-kamloops-1.5573930 My prayers go out to all that have been affected by this tragic event. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe TWC_Lusthawk is from the interior of BC and may in fact be from Kamloops. RE: Tragedy Strikes!!!! - Dave - 05-18-2020 Damn! There are so many things she could have done, but what I see, is a total loss of control,,, Why? When she lost control, is a moot point, now... that is a broken plane, plane as day... If it happened to me, I would want to see the Air Disasters episode that explains it all... https://www.google.com/search?q=air+disasters&rlz=1C1CHWA_enUS516US516&sxsrf=ALeKk000s1tNgdBRoEZEsDfmQ0lDLyk0pQ:1589842799869&source=lnms&tbm=vid&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiJw9b6wb7pAhWioHIEHV5UBmkQ_AUoAXoECA8QAw&biw=970&bih=583 Sorry Spook, the film thingie is not in this frame of reply,,, (Always run a track file!) I will never forget the small puddle jumper that crashed because the cables seperated way before their life expectancy, but the plane was parked in the backwash of jets taking off, & they just wore out from excessive vibration, even thought the plane was on the ground! Just to clarify, CT-114 Tutor aircraft is a two-man aircraft, and was being piloted by Capt. Richard MacDougal. He is the one who sustained serious injuries after having ejected from the aircraft. Capt. Jenn Casey, a public affairs officer with the Snowbirds, is the one who died in the crash. RE: Tragedy Strikes!!!! - Spardog - 05-19-2020 This is a video of the takeoff, the plane losing control, and Capt. MacDougal and Capt. Casey ejecting from the stricken aircraft. https://twitter.com/i/status/1262103067354259457 RE: Tragedy Strikes!!!! - kaper - 05-20-2020 Wow that's one intense video to watch. Quite tragic indeed. RE: Tragedy Strikes!!!! - Iron_Horse - 05-22-2020 Terrible accident especially with the loss of life. After pulling up and making a left turn it appears (even though the a/c was lost to view for a few seconds) that he was on the stall when next in view it does appear that the pilot corrected a spin before both ejecting. Cannot help thinking that his objective was to try and save the aircraft but hindsight would have been to maintain runway heading, gain height then reassess problem and have height to eject!! All very well for a none pilot to make comments for I could be completely wrong RIP Regards Iron. |
