Beaufighter Help - Dave - 06-06-2020

TWC_BlackKnight!

How do you get out of a flat spin
in a Beaufighter?

All of the shit I learned failed me here!

Dave

Eject.

RE: Beaufighter Help - Brett - 06-06-2020

How do you even get a Beau into a flat spin?!

RE: Beaufighter Help - Birdtail - 06-07-2020

By trying to fly it like a Spit or Hurricane :-)

Had a good talk with the guys on Discord about this,
Both Lusthawk & Blackknight gave great input!

Yes, it is caused by trying to fly the Beau like a Hurri, or a Spit.

What I learned was the Beau tail is too small for control like a smaller fighter,
& was enlarged "after" the battle of Britain, so we will not see the improved version.

2nd, after all normal attempts fail (if you have the altitude) -- (big IF)
like throttle to idle, nose down, hard rudder etc...
There is more you can try, like cutting one engine while revving the other
in opposition to the spin.

The next thing is the application of Flaps,
Blacknight says 5% flaps is needed for more control in maneuvers
even at the loss of speed!

I have not tried either yet,
but I am itching to.
This is the kind of stuff that makes me want to fly!
Yeah, flying is great,
shooting up the enemy is rewarding,
but trying something new is what keeps driving me upward...
