The General is Dead!

#1
But it wasn't without problems...

Todays location of the General made him easier to track down,
since Callais Rationing was at BB21.5.4 and the General was at BB21.5.8
it also helped that rationing was a giant beacon of flames.
Still, pretty damn hard seeing he was half in, and half outside
a building!

I took some screenshots (see discord #recon) to show Birdtail
& we decided to go kill him. I was a little long, but 1,000 lbs was enough
to really mess up his chess game. Then Birdtail, seeing red and wounded
makes an amazing dive directly into blinding smoke to deliver his 40 pounders
and finish him off.

What did we get for our trouble?
Civilian area bombed & sever repercussions!
No accolades, no medals! Nada!

It turns out after a chat with Flug on the server, that
we did not need to bomb to get recognition. The whole scenario
is that an unarmed plane taking a tab 4-9 picture with 500 meters
(approx 1500 feet) wins the general. But I would be a lot happier
if blowing him to smithereens gave you the banner!

I did go back again unarmed & took the tab 4-9
of his smoking carcass & rec'd the banner...

fun vid but I was more impressed that you found the General at all , I struggle finding targets like that I am not sure Blues even have anything like recon photos in one spot , I know I don't know where they are anyway . Kendy is about the only one I know who occasionally talks about his targets . do you take recon photos to find these things or just bomb red roofs ?????? that was a great job finding and getting that nasty general hats off to yah

TGIF, a high level recon flight exposes targets, if you are lucky a "general" type one is found in the area - then more specific co-ordinates are given. I hope this helps abit.

Thanks for the reply tgif_Mas,
Finding the General was easier in this case for several reasons.
1) I found him before on French Point out in the open & blew the crap out of him to no avail.
( that was before I knew the object was to JUST TAKE A TAB 4-9 PICTURE OF HIM with an empty plane)
but now I know what he looks like. (it is always the same set up.)
2)The Calais location was a Godsend because the rations whse (on fire) was at BB21.5.4 & he was at BB21.5.8
an easy hop, skip & a jump to locate.
3) After a total failure finding him in a previous Dunkirk scenario, I had a feeling that something was not Kosher...
So the Gods honest truthis,,, I CHEATED!

& I think it was only fair, as the Blasted General was hidden half in, & half outside a building!

Here is the outside skinny on HOW I CHEATED:
Not on purpose (but out of total frustration) I took a Blennie on recon, miraculously dancing through
all the ridiculous amount of Flak , at around 200 to 500 feet AGL until I was blown out of the skies...
Then I went to my TRACK FILE and watched in slow motion trying to scope the ($#*@) with the outside views...
When that came up empty, I closed the F10 views & opened planes/ships/artillery (mouse right click)
under MISC, I painstakingly went thru ALL the options/bomb craters/Misc crap,

& then I saw it! CHESS TABLE!

Click on Chess table, zoom straight out vertically, & there ya go, Bob's your Uncle!

Of course this cheat will be rendered inoperable as soon as the Campaign goes live
& testing is over. No outside views in the real thing!

But it does bring up some tweaks that if initiated would make game play much more enjoyable.

Suggestions:
once the general has been high altitude recon'd, currently an unloaded spit or Hurri can tab 4-9 him.
(then strafe the bastard! just for fun!)
But a hurri bomber, or Blennie (or german equivalents) should be able to tab 4-9 him also,
(& then blow him to Smithereens, as I like to say...)
WITH YELLOW BANNER ACCOLADES!

DISCLAIMER:
(I only cheated, & revealed how, to improve the game...)

well thanks to both of you for the   "lesson"        I guess I better find out more about recon photos      and give it a whirl      I think your slow motion views were just thinking out of the box  and  show officer type" initiative" myself     so no harm done  I say   .    and besides bombers need all the help they can get

thanks  D  &  M

BTW you don't have to be in a bomb-less plane to take the low-level recon photo (I THINK! Let me know if you try it and have troubles).

The low-level recon thing is different from the regular high level scout photos.

Also if you get anywhere in the general vicinity of the General and start taking low-level photos you'll start to get instructions and it will tell you that you photographed the wrong location or whatever.

But generally you have to take the photo within 100 meters of the general & staff, and below 100 meters altitude (above ground level) when you take the photo.

FYI there are some real goodies your team gets now if you successfully take a photo.

Bombing/killing the General is up to you, you don't get anything special for doing that except the satisfaction. But I'd suggest taking the photo first as you might ruin the intelligence info by bombing it if you do that first.

Also as mentioned above, the location becomes more & more specific depending on recon etc. So it pays to keep checking the scouted objectives list & looking at the General's information shown there.

If it's only been scouted once (via high-level recon photos) the general's position will be pretty vague, like just the sector.

But the more that area is reconned the more Photo Intelligence can narrow down the exact location of the General and of course that makes it a lot easier to find him.

If the location is narrowed down to a double keypad location like AB15.2.1 that is going to be downright easy to find, right?

Anyway, keep looking at the General's location info because the specificity of it varies depending on the amount of recon done in that area etc.
