Here are some details about Landing Grounds, how to establish and maintain them, and how they will be used in the Genghis Khan Campaign - which is starting about now:
- Landing Grounds are permanent, lasting 21 days rather than just 12 hours (unless destroyed by the enemy, of course!)
- Landing Grounds can be established on any EMPTY airfield in neutral OR friendly territory.
- "Friendly territory" means that your ground troops have cleared that area of the enemy, so you can just go ahead and establish a Landing Ground on any unused/empty airfield on your side of the front line
- Neutral territory is a confused area where each army may own some assets and neither side fully dominates. But each side has the opportunity to take or destroy things.
- So if you destroy the enemy airfield in the neutral zone, you can attempt to make a Landing Ground there. If you succeed, it will become a spawn point, enemy AA/artillery will be cleared out of that immediate area, and you will have some AA defenses.
--> (Note that we were having a problem today where there was a Landing Ground Spawn Point (Bembridge), but as soon as you spawned in, enemy AA shot you up. That problem should be fixed now. As soon as you establish an LG there are ground troops there, at least enough to clear the immediate area of AA, and provide a few of your own AA when needed.)
- The new Landing Ground will (again) last a long time - 21 days unless destroyed (though you can renew it)
Also . . . you can fly a <ferry mission to the new LG. That adds a new aircraft type to the LG (whatever type you fly in) AND renews the LG for an additional 21 days. (AND adds your <ferry aircraft to your side's supply in the usual way.)
You must arrive with at least 6 <ferry aircraft (your own plus 5 more) to add that model to the LG's supply.
FYI!
Congrats again to the Blue air force for their victory in the Jubilee Campaign! This is the first-ever beachhead achieved by either army!
