No TWC MIssion Server Loading

#1
Hey Guys

When I logged onto my game tonight, the TWC Mission Server Blitz failed to be listed on the Servers List page. After clicking the "New List" button a few time, it finally appeared but did not include a "Map Name" (the field was left blank). When I tried to join this listing, I was taken to the Client Connect page but nothing happened. After awhile I backed out to the Servers List page and renewed the name list. Again the TWC Mission Server Blitz failed to load, so I clicked the "New List" button several times again until finally it was listed. But again it had no "Map Name" listed.

Hi Guys

I'm not sure why it's hard to give an answer to this question, I've seen answers to other questions, and I've seen your postings on other forums, yet it appears to be okay to simply ignore this question.

If the removal of the TWC Mission Server has to do with conserving server resources, then get rid of the TWC Training Server instead, for all the good it does.

I've financially contributed to the help maintain the servers, and from my point of view, more specifically the TWC Mission Server. I prefer the TWC Mission Server over the TWC Campaign Server for a few reasons:

  1. Yes I prefer to not have to wear my head-tracker. Sometimes it's fun to just fly the mission and use the external views for situational awareness. Yes I get it's not realistic, but neither is the head-tracker with it's exaggerated views and the dizziness it causes when I look away from the monitor to answer the wife's question. I do use the head-tracker when i feel like pulling out the equipment and setting things up. Maybe I purchased the wrong rig, but my computer is not just a gaming computer, it's my wife's computer as well as the computer I use for doing work at home, so having the head-tracker/headphone rig setup all the time is not practical
  2. I prefer the variety of engagements. In all of my time I've spent flying the TWC Campaign Server, only once did I ever encounter a flight of bombers
  3. On the TWC Mission Server I've encountered a large variety of aircraft: several different types of bombers, several different types of fighters, several different types of fighter/bombers etc., but on the TWC Campaign Server I mainly encounter Bf-109 E3's and E4's
  4. There is satisfaction in the role I play. On the TWC Mission Server if I decide to jump in a Hurricane FB to fly ground attack role, and if I'm successful at avoiding the AAA and my bombs hit their intended target, I'm usually well rewarded for my efforts, receiving anywhere from 2 points to 20 points depending on the value of the target. In TWC Campaign Server I get rewarded with 1 point possibly 2 points if I survive at all
  5. When I decide to fly a hunter role and pilot a fighter, on the TWC Mission Server I have a choice of targets: bombers, fighters, triple AAA etc., and when I encounter the enemy fighters it comes in a variety of formations, sometimes 1 solo, often 2 paired, more often flights of 4 and 6 fighters. On the TWC Campaign Server it is always a flight of 5 or more Bf109 E3 or E4 fighters, and when I'm in a Hurricane FB, what chance do I stand. What pilot in his right mind would take on a flight of 4 or more fighters?
  6. I like the "score-board." By being able to climb the ranks of the scoreboard, causes me to pause before taking on the foolish thought of engaging a flight of 4 or more fighters, especially after having survived so many missions. Nothing upsets me more about the game than when I pull a boneheaded move or take a unnecessary risk and end up loosing my career over it, and have to begin the long climb back up the ladder again. So the scoreboard forces me to think before I act!
So these are just a few of the reasons I prefer the TWC Mission Server of the TWC Campaign Server. So if you can find it in your hearts to restore access to this server I will be truly grateful and will continue to support the server. To sum it up simply: I find the TWC Mission Server more fun to fly than the TWC Campaign Server, and isn't that why we do what we do?

Thank you for reading my post!

Padre,

May I express my complete agreement with your comments regarding the comparison between the Mission and Campaign server.  I gave up on the latter many months ago having made similar feelings known to Fatal and been given the bum's rush.

After the first hour of a session on the campaign server there are never any German bombers on the plot, they just do not exist (I spent many, many hours watching the radar plot).  Furthermore, during that first hour there are so many German fighters in the air that a solo RAF pilot, or even one in a small group, has no chance of surviving.  Later in a session the chances of even finding German fighters over the UK are remote.  When I tried to point this out I was told, firstly, that I was wrong and that there were three bombing raids an hour during each session; then when I persisted I was told that fighter sweeps were the main LW tactic and so shut up,  I did.  The problem with that Campaign server from my perspective is that it has moved away from the BoB to being a bomber/ground-attack game. Great if one is interested in that sort of thing but I ain't.

The mission server was, when it started, good fun and we used to have some cracking sessions on there when half a dozen or more of us would get up and and have some wild dog-fights over the solent, all communicating on TeamSpeak (with whispers for wing-mates and seperate flights).  It had far more of a BoB feel.  But then, they buggered it up by giving over a big chunk of Sussex to the LW and introducing an AI that could magically materialize over Portsmouth or even North Hampshire.  Again questions went unanswered or were brushed off.

Nowadays, whenever I fly, and that ain't often, I tend to go to Danger Dogz.  If I am going to fly on my own, which is now the norm as TWC comms is usually empty and we have this absurd Discord solution, I might as well fight in a BoB environment than some mickey-mouse ground-attack game.

To know that I'm not the only one that has taken issue with this, helps. I was beginning to take things personally  Big Grin

I think Flug manages the Mission Server and he is often away.  When down previously there were occassions when it was down for quite some time until its return.

Oh, I thought it was a TWC server, and therefore under TWC management. I never considered it was someones private server. Maybe it just needs a reboot, anyone know how to contact Flug?

I "believe" Mission and Campaign are run from Flugs server at his house (or thats the way it used to be) Flug manages Mission Server, Fatal manages Campaign Server.  I havent seen Flug since I started flying BOS, however Flug does go on various trips etc bicycling and work so can be absent for some periods.  I dont think Fatal plays with the files on the Mission server as he would be busy between TFS and Campaign and may not even have access for all I know.  I do know Fatal has tried to get Flug in the past and has had to wait until his return from whereever, so I wouldnt be holding my breath on a quick fix via PM. Tho there is nothing stopping you trying that avenue.
